Make Room: Contemplative Retreat
January 23-25, 2015
Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all your true needs will be provided for you. ... The kingdom of God is not coming with signs to be observed; nor will they say, “Look, here it is!” or, “There it is!” For behold, the kingdom of God is within you.
– Jesus, Matthew 6.33 & Luke 17.20/21
VLC’s Make Room: Contemplative Retreat is all about taking Jesus at His word. Our lives grow so busy and seemingly complex that the simplicity of Christ’s message goes over our heads. We have so much happening, so much we identify ourselves with, and so much we’re trying to do with our lives that trying to fit God into our crowded minds and lives is like trying to fit a camel through the eye of a needle. Our “retreating” is an act of making room for the hope and presence of God in our hears, souls, and minds.
We may not be focusing on parenting, but we will become better parents. We may not talk about marriage, but we will become more loving spouses. We may not discuss acts of service, but we will return greater servants to those around us. Not because of something we’ve done, but by the very nature of being with Christ. For it is in seeking first the kingdom of God that we find all our needs being met.
